About Us
Echo Park Independent Co-op(Shop EPIC for short) is the brainchild of Rhianon Jones and Tristan
Scott. Located in the beautiful historic landmark building, the Jensen
Recreation Center, in the heart of Echo Park, at 1712 W. Sunset Blvd., the
official grand opening will be March 12, 2010. Both Jones and Scott’s
inspiration comes from the local Los Angeles talent that surrounds them,
the renaissance of Echo Park and of course the longstanding Eastside
culture. It is their goal to be a community leader and a social bridge for
the community in fashion, art, music, visual artists, and environment.
Their intention is to create a store that has a reputation to be a must
shop destination in Los Angeles where people go to find great,
fashion-forward talent that is on par with NY’s esteemed designers.
Everything in the store will be presented in a gallery-like setting. All
items are carefully selected and locally designed, and in most cases
locally produced. Rhianon Jones & Tristan Scott’s goals are simple; to
support & promote local young up-start fashion talent and artists, and to
use E.P.I.C’s retail influence, as they grow, to educate retail buyers
about being a different kind of store. One that is more ethical, involved
in community, and upholds strong social and ecological values. E.P.I.C. is
also planning on taking artists and designers under their wing to create
in-store products that are unique to the market place. They want to provide
these labels with the resources to build their own identity and also use
environmentally friendly and socially responsible practices.
“We believe
that times of economic downturn can be the most fruitful time for
creativity, and we want to show that you don't have to look past your own
neighborhood to find exceptional artists, whose independent status means
their work isn't outsourced as it would be with larger labels. We believe
in the importance of artists and community and want to create a space for
our community to support the artists we have.”
